Hawai‘i State Science Olympiad

Dedicated to improving the quality of science education for students in Hawai‘i.

Sportsmanship

Good sportsmanship is a quality that we at the Hawai'i State Science Olympiad wish to encourage among all of our participating students, teachers, parents, coaches and judges. We feel that positive encouragement among all of the participants fosters a more positive atmosphere and enhances the experience of the Science Olympiad as a whole.

While there are currently no national guidelines regarding sportsmanship before, during and/or following an Olympiad, we (the state committee) hope that you (the coaches) will encourage your students to act responsibly and follow the brief guidelines outlined below. Should you have any questions regarding these guidelines, please email us at hisciolympiad@hotmail.com

We encourage all participants to DO the following before/during/following the Science Olympiad:

- Positively support and motivate fellow team members

- Positively support and motivate team members of competing schools

- Bring banners, signs or create a cheer to support your team during events and during awards presentations.

- Applaud the hard work and effort of ALL participants

- Follow the guidelines established regarding interference and vandalism

- Applaud and support ALL teams and students that earn a medal during the Olympiad

- Encourage parents and siblings to attend the Olympiad awards presentation
