Invitationals

Invitationals serve as practice tournaments that are organized by Science Olympiad teams. Results from these tournaments do not affect Regional rankings or State Finals qualification. These events are purely for skill development, experience, and most of all - FUN!

Schools may only register as many teams for an invitational as they have registered with HSSO for the season. Fees for participation in Invitational tournaments varies based on the host.

Invitational Tournaments sanctioned by HSSO may also:

  • Utilize or omit the HSSO league system.

  • Offer Division B, Division C, or both division events.

  • Devise their own event schedules to fit their venue needs.

  • Devise their own event offerings to fit their venue needs.

Continuing in 2025-2026: All registered HSSO teams may compete in ANY (satellite or mini) invitational offered throughout the country. The national website has a list here.

New for 2025-2026: The number of teams registered by a school at any invitational cannot exceed the amount the teams registered with HSSO (and subsequently National Science Olympiad); a team cannot exceed 15 members at any tournament and the composition of team cannot be changed during the day of the tournament but can be changed for subsequent tournaments.
