HSSO State Finals 2026
The 2026 HSSO State Finals Tournament will be held on Saturday, March 7th at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
All updates and communications to coaches from the State Director can be found in this documented email thread.
States Finals Bids: Schools that participate in at least 70% of offered events at their Regional Tournament will be awarded a bid and be eligible to advance to the State Finals, regardless of placement, and qualify for awards. We will maintain the policy of 1 team per school for the State Tournament.
Teams
State Finals Logistics
-
Each team is allowed 15 team members to compete in all official events. Division B teams are limited to only 5 competing 9th graders. Division C teams are limited to only 7 competing 12th graders.
-
A roster of competing students must be signed by a school's principal and submitted to HSSO.
-
Build events will be scheduled through ESUS; log-in credentials have been sent to head coaches by the State Director.
-
Practicing at the tournament venue (UH Manoa) is explicitly forbidden, in accordance with General Rule 5 of the Science Olympiad Code of Ethics.
-
Competing teams are assigned competition numbers, which must be noted on any event tests and documentation. View team numbers at this document: [PUBLIC] HSSO States School Information
-
All 23 events in each division will be ran. Additionally, Trial Events Botany B/C and Code Craze B/C will be run, in which Alternates may compete in.
-
The current Tournament Schedule may be viewed with the following link (subject to changes): 2026 Hawai'i States Schedule (DRAFT) 02182026
-
There is no limit to alternates that may be submitted with your complete team roster on the day of the tournament, and as space allows, teams may be allowed to submit more than one team per trial event.
The State Finals Tournament will also recognize the top 5 teams in each event and overall awards. We will also be introducing an award for the highest placing team that did not compete in the previous State Finals, recognizing the achievement of a new team or one that is returning from a hiatus.
The winner of each Division at the State Tournament will be invited to the 42nd Science Olympiad National Tournament held at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA from May 22nd-23rd.
